Ryan Hom mounts incredible comeback at Long Island Mid-Amateur

Down eight after the first round, Ryan Hom shoots 68 and benefited from the leader's collapse to win by one stroke

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (September 9, 2014) — Daniel Abbondandolo lead the Long Island Mid-Amateur by six shots through the first round. But a final-round 77 opened the door for Ryan Hom to swoop in and capture victory. Hom, who shot 73 on Monday and trailed Abbondandolo by eight shots, rebounded with a 68 to edge the first-round leader by a shot. Hom played collegiate golf for Bucknell College in Lewsiton, Pa. Abbondandolo, who is a former golfer at Siena College, finished in second place, while his father Rocco, who was tied for second with a 71 in the first round, shot 83 on Tuesday and dropped out of the top-20. Garret Engel finished alone in third place, going 73-70.
