Royal Melbourne teammates Matias Sanchez and Will Heffernan surged up the leaderboard ten spots thanks to a bogey-free 10-under 62 second round. The duo put together consecutive 5-under 31 sides with their best stretch coming from Nos. 12-16 when they birdied five of the six holes.
Geoff Lenehan and Jack Pierse of Portmarnock had a steady 4-under 68 round. The highlight of the day for the pairing was an eagle on the par-5 3rd.
Los Angeles Country Club ended up two-strokes back and and will be the three-seed for match play. John Callaghan and Sandy Horacek combined for six birdies and two bogeys to card a 4-under 68 as well. Their day got off to blistering bogey-free 5-under 31 start on the front nine but cooled on the way home with a 1-over 37 closing nine.
The final team to make it through to match play is Royal St. George's Golf Club and they will be the four- seed. Royal St. George's tallied a two round score of 8- under after rounds of 66-72. Karl Gilbert and Richard Osterdahl used back-to-back birdies to finish their round in style and lift themselves into the semifinals.
In the final four No. 1 Royal Melbourne will face No. 4 Royal St. George's and No. 2 Portmarnock will square off against No. 3 Los Angeles. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinals.
