Ron Carter takes commanding lead at Golfweek Senior Amateur

Carter shot a 2nd straight 4-under 68 and will take an 8-shot lead into the final round at PGA West

LA QUINTA, Calif. (April 14, 2014) -- Ron Carter shot a second straight 68 and extended his lead to a commanding eight shots at the 2014 Golfweek Senior Amateur at PGA West. Playing the Stadium Course, Carter, of Monticello, Ind., shot 4-under for a second straight day and now holds an impressive advantage heading into the final day of the national championship. Doug Pool of Las Vegas is in second place. Pool, a two-time defending champion, shot 4-under 68 to get back towards the top of the leaderboard after a first-round 76. Steven Hakes (71-74) and David Pocknall (71-75) are sitting alone in third and fourth, respectively, while Adam Kugler and Tom Phillips are 12 shots back and tied for fifth place. John Richart of La Quinta used his local knowledge to take a three-shot lead in the Super Senior Division. Richart shot 71-72 and leads Mack Clapp (71-75) and Bob Currey (76-70) entering the finale. In the Legends Division, Fred Rowland leads Robert Fouke by a shot.
