Richardson Memorial: Calmi Wins It

HEWLETT HARBOR, New York (May 2, 2009) -- In a year when the U.S. Open will be played at his home course -- which he calls "the best in New York" -- Casey Calmi has claimed the Richardson Invitational title at The Seawane Club.

The field was whittled down to 16 match play contestants during an 18 hole qualifier on Friday.

Most of the qualifiers played out of private clubs, but Calmi relied on his "Bethpage Black" experience (as public courses go, it's not a bad one to play out of) to win his final match by a 7 & 5 margin over Brian McClure of Maple Moor Golf Club.

ABOUT THE RICHARDSON MEMORIAL
- Each year The Seawane Club -- a links style layout founded in 1927 -- is the host of the Richardson Memorial, which honors the late William D. Richardson, a reporter for the New York Times from 1921 to 1957.
