Rhode Island Stroke Play: Blanchard wins 4th

Charlie Blanchard of Wannamoisett CC captured his fourth RIGA Stroke Play Championship

WARWICK, R.I. (July 26, 2011) -- Charlie Blanchard (Wannamoisett CC) captures his 4th Stroke Play Championship. After two rounds of golf when the flag never left the pole, the wind at Warwick CC picked up and made conditions much more difficult during the afternoon round.

Charlie started the third round 1 stroke behind second round leader Jonathan Pannone (Warwick CC). They both traded the lead during the final round but a birdie on the 16th hole by Blanchard gave him the lead for good. Amateur champion Brad Valois (Metacomet CC) made a charge finished one stroke off the lead with Dr. George Pirie who shot 67-68 and captured the senior division title.

URI's Jeff Ray shot the best round of the afternoon shooting 3 under par 66.

The highlight of the tournament was Lenny Curreri (Metacomet CC) made a hole in one on the 198 yard 17th hole to make the cut at 75.
