Quarterfinals set at Chicago District Amateur

Medalist Alex Burge was one of eight players advancing on Tuesday during the first round of match play

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The round-of-16 took place Tuesday at Knollwood Club as the Chicago District Amateur Championship widdled its way down to just eight players. Medalist and No. 1 seed Alex Burge had no trouble beating Sean Graham 6-and-5. Burge earned the top seed during 36-holes of stroke play qualifying, in which he fired rounds of 68 and 70 to medal by three shots. Burge will face Charlie Netzel in Wednesday morning's quarterfinal matchup. The second seed went to defending champion Jordan Fahal, though he lost his opening-round match to Raymond Knoll after going two extra holes. Knoll will square off with Cully Johnston in the quarterfinals. Derek Meinhart, winner of this year's Carlton Woods Invitational, will have a competitive match Wednesday with last year's runner-up Blake Johnson. Rounding out the quarterfinalists are Tee-K Kelly and Brian Bullington, who both had runaway victories in the round-of-16. Bullington's 8-and-7 defeat of Jake Erickson was the largest margin of the first round.
