Pros lead Amateurs at 23rd Tar Heel Cup Matches

WALLACE, NC (April 3, 2017) -- Two teams of the best playing amateurs and PGA Professionals from the state of North Carolina met for the 23rd time in a friendly team match play event called the "Tar Heel Cup." River Landing Country Club located in Wallace, NC is hosting this event for the third time on its River Course.

The PGA Professional team won each of the first day's four-ball matches where the better score of two partners for each hole is the one that counts. Each match was worth one point.

Day One Match Results

Scooter Buhrman/Savio Nazareth won 3&2 over Josh Nichols (a)/David Sargent (a)

Chris Haarlow/Michael Hutcheon won 4&3 over Uly Grisette (a)/Lionell Sutton (a)

Larry George/Cory Schneider won 4&2 over David Gies (a)/Dustin Moore (a)

Nick Jacobi/Matt Vick won 1 up over Scott Harvey (a)/ Paul Tucker (a)

Despite this early lead, the amateurs should feel confident of their chances for a comeback due to recent history as they've won four of the last five events. While the tide has flowed in the amateurs' direction of late, the Professionals still lead the series with a record of 13-6-3.

Day two will feature eight singles matches in the morning. 6½ points are needed to win the matches, and the amateurs will retain the cup with a 6-point halve.
