BLUFFTON, South Carolina (July 15, 2017) -- Connecticut's Theo Humphrey and local favorite Bryson Nimmer are tied for the 54-hole lead at the Players Amateur.
Nimmer, who will be a junior this fall at Clemson, posted 6-under and stands at 10-under 203. He took advantage of a two hour rain delay brought on by heavy rain and scored better when play resumed.
“The course was a little softer, said Nimmer. "It made it a little more scorable I think. Some of those pins coming in were a little tough if we played them before the weather delay but since we had the weather delay I think it was a little easier.”
Humphrey, who contended well into the final round of the Northeast Amateur this summer in Rhode Island, posted 4-under for the day and stands tied Nimmer at the top, three shots ahead of University of Virginia’s Danny Walker and College of Charleston Grad William Rainey.
The Vanderbilt senior struggled with his ball striking on Saturday, but made the best of the round.
“It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t up to the standard it had been the first two days," said Humphrey. "I just made some key up and downs when I needed to keep momentum.”
The final round will begin Sunday at 7:30 off the 1st and 10th tees. Tournament officials made the decision because the weather forecast calls for afternoon storms.
