Players Am: Hunter Stewart wins rain-shortened event

With the final round washed out, Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart gets the win and Heritage Classic exemption

BLUFFTON, South Carolina (July 14, 2013) -- Sometimes a one stroke lead is enough. Heading into today's final round, that's what Hunter Stewart (14-under 202 through 54 holes) had over a talented field at the 2013 Players Amateur at South Carolina's Berkeley Hall Country Club. (A breath away at 203 was Cal golfer and 2012 US Amateur runner-up Michael Weaver.) But rains that had plagued the tournament all week finally proved too much for the course on Sunday, and when the final round was called, the Vanderbilt University golfer was declared the winner. With that win comes an exemption into the PGA Tour's Heritage Classic. Stewart's Vanderbilt teammate John Voetsch (who we thank for also tweeting the trophy picture shown here) tweeted the following: "Congrats @hunterstewart5 for winning the Players Am. Great player, better leader, even better friend/person."
