Park & Herbert to battle in Women's Southern Amateur finals

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 24, 2012) -- Golf shots of professional quality rang throughout Myers Park Country Club's golf course, as the young guns, with college logos, still standing in the Championship Flight vied for a chance to be in the final 36-hole match of the 2012 WSGA Amateur. Collins Bradshaw was first to post a win in the morning quarterfinals against Karli Heimbecker winning 4 & 3. Emee Herbert of Tusculum College's Pioneer Golf team finished next with a 3 and 2 win over Kathryn Fowler of the University of Mississippi team. Rika Park of the University of Miami carried Dianiela Lendl from the University of Alabama team to the eighteenth hole before winning 1-up. The longest quarterfinal match was that of Maia Schechter of the University of North Carolina golf team. Allie Knight of Middle Tennessee State University forced Schechter to the nineteenth hole before Schechter could card the win. Tomorrow, starting at 8 a.m. the surviving pair of golfers, Rika Park and Emee Herbert will start out on their adventure that will make history and be recorded in the annuals of the WSGA. Our WSGA records show that 100 years ago Mrs Frank Jones, the 4th seed, defeated Mrs George Harrington, the 3rd seed, 4 and 3 in the finals of the 2nd WSGA Amateur Tournament. One hundred years from now, historians can look back and read the two names of the ladies that play Friday May the 25th 2012 for the WSGA Amateur Crown. Park and Herbert have similar unflappable games that should provide a long and grueling match as both players get down to the business of playing golf. Both by their actions, on and off the course, radiate a true excitement and love for the game.
