On a cold and windy day with gusts out of the north above 25 miles per hour, the deep field took aim on the 7,050 layout.
The co-leading teams are one shot up on a trio of squads. The teams of Mike Wagner and Brett Martin, Nick Lambos and Gene O'Byrne and Michael Slaven and John Finnin and Todd Mitchell are all in at 72.
In the Senior Division, Michael Alsup and Ken Kee are two shots up on Jim Webb and Blake Watt thanks to an opening-round 70.
The story of the day was the par-5 1st. The tournament committee decided to use the newly added back tee, which stretched the opening hole to 608 yards for the Mid-Am Division. Back in to the wind it could have been classified as a four-shot Par 5 and it played the hardest hole on the course on day one with a stroke average of 6.11 for the Mid-Am Division.
