Olympia Fields Four-Ball: Nathan, Vitt win six-hole playoff

Kyle Nathan and Andrew Vitt take home trophy after enduring a six-hole playoff

By Jack Persons OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (May 30, 2014) -- Kyle Nathan and Andrew Vitt went into a three-team playoff at the Olympia Fields Four-Ball and came out victorious after six holes. The team of Nathan and Vitt shot 70-69 to tie with John Finnin and Troy Logan, and Mike Cushing and Jeff Niepagen at 139. Finnin and Logan posted the low final round score at 67 to make the playoff, while Cushing and Niepagen shot a 69 today. The playoff between the three teams went six holes before a champion was determined. First round leaders Chris Haggard and Chris Noel shot a final round 73 after a first round 67 to tie for fourth, only one stroke out of the playoff. The Senior Division also ended in a playoff, with Michael Alsup and Ken Kee matching up against Terry Werner and Skip Runnels after both teams shot 139. Alsup and Kee only needed one hole to win, however. First round Senior co-leaders Tom DeStefani and Larry Meyers fell back to third today after a final round 73. Olympia Fields, which most recently hosted the US Open in 2003, will welcome the US Amateur next year for the first time.
