BLUFFTON, South Carolina (July 13, 2017) Andy Ogletree and William Rainey are the round one leaders at the Players Amateur, at Berkeley Hall Golf Club.
Ogletree, a Georgia Tech sophomore, went out in style -- he started his round with three consecutive birdies on his first time playing Berkeley Hall G.C. “The greens are pretty fast and there are some tough pin locations out there so putting is a big deal today,” said Ogletree.
William Rainey of Charlotte also started his day with three-straight birdies. Rainey, a graduate of the College of Charleston, was on the back nine when play was stopped, but was able to finish a round of 4-under 67.
Three players--Cooper Musselman, Shae Wools-Cobb and Gordon Neale--are tied for third just one shot behind the co-leaders.
Six additional players are another shot back at 2-under, including Bluffton’s Bryson Nimmer, who plays for Clemson.
The defending champion Cheng Jin shot an even-par 71 and is tied for 17th place.
