SAVANNAH, Ga. (July 26, 2008)--Former University of South Carolina golfer Mark Anderson fired a career-best 64 in the second round of the Oglethorpe Invitational to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final day of play at the Wilmington Island Club in Georgia, then salted away the victory with a final-round 67, winning by three strokes. Anderson, who is coming off a victory at another prestigous amateur major, The Players Am, finished 68-64-67--197, 19-under-par.
He currently has shot seven straight rounds in the 60's, dating back to the start of The Players. His final-round 60 in that tournament was a tournament record, as was his 64 in the Oglethorpe's second round.
"It's a nice feeling," Anderson told the Savannah Morning News. "I'm playing well in pressure situations. After the way I finished the Players Am, I didn't have any trouble sleeping on the lead here Saturday night."
Duluth's Greg Kennedy took second place at 200, 16-under.
Patrick Rada of South Carolina fired an impressive 64 in the final round to take third at 202, while Jacksonville's Jeff Dennis took fourth at 204.
