Nicholas Geyer holds Southern California Public Links 36-hole lead

PASADENA, CA (August 13, 2016) -- Nicholas Geyer has taken the 36-hole lead at the Southern California Public Links following a second round 4-under 66. Greyer is 8-under and he will carry a one-stroke lead into Sunday's final round over Dan Sullivan. Playing on Brookside Golf Club Course #2 Geyer birdied five holes, eagled one and bogeyed two. One day after firing a bogey-free round, the San Diego assistant coach, birdied Nos. 2, 7, 11 and 14. His eagle came on the short par-5 16th. Geyer started bogey-birdie-bogey before playing 3-under bogey-free golf the rest of the way. Sullivan, the first round leader, struggled a bit during his second round shooting a 1-over 71. After just two holes Sullivan was 2-over for his round before he was able to right the ship beginning with seven consecutive pars and birdies on the 12th and 16th holes. Sullivan did drop a stroke on the 17th but he was still able keep himself very much in the mix. Michael Howe is in third place at 5-under, Tim Hogarth is fourth at 4-under and Andrew Banuelos is 3-under in fifth. ROUND ONE RECAP Dan Sullivan began the Southern California Public Links with a first round 8-under 64. Sullivan will carry a three-stroke lead into Saturday's second round. Playing at Brookside Golf Club Course #1 Sullivan birdied nine and only faltered on one hole. Sullivan started on the 10th hole and turned in 2-under 34. On the front side the 2016 Pasadena City winner found another gear and birdied Nos. 1-4 the 7th and 9th holes. When the final putt dropped Sullivan's signed for a closing nine 6-under 30. Braeden Koran and Clayton Yamaguchi both shot 5-under 67's and share second. Koran began on the 10th hole and eagled the par-5 15th to move to 2-under but like Sullivan did most of his work on the front. Four birdies came on the inward side along with one bogey. The birdies came on Nos. 3, 5, 6 and 8. Clayton Yamaguchi, a recent UC San Diego graduate, played a bogey-free round with three birdies and an eagle two on the par-4 5th. San Diego assistant coach Nicholas Geyer and Joseph Downey are tied for fourth at 4-under.
