Luke Neeley takes a commanding lead at the Texas North Amateur Championship

MANSFIELD, TX (August 10, 2013) — The second round of the 2013 North Amateur Championship presented by UST Mamiya has come to a close at Walnut Creek Country Club. Players were met with warm and breezy conditions that provided a worthy test for the entire field. With 25 players within 6 shots of the lead going into the second round, it was sure to be an exciting day. Luke Neeley of Mansfield held a share of the lead on Friday after an opening round of 3-under par, 67. On Saturday, Neeley continued his solid play making the turn from his first nine holes in 2-under par. Heading to his back side, Neeley added another two birdies before making a double bogey on his 17th hole to finish the day with a round of 2-under par, 68. Neeley’s under par round was one of only three that were shot in the second round. With a 36-hole total of 5-under par, 135, Neeley will take a comfortable five shot lead into the final round. Five shots behind Neeley in second place is Colby Harwell of Robinson. Harwell managed four birdies on the day, but canceled them out with a double bogey and two bogies to shoot even par for the second straight day. First round co-leader, Brandon Scott, had an up-and-down day in the second round. Scott’s round two double bogeys, five bogeys, and five birdies. His 4-over par round of 74 gives him a 36-hole total of 1-over par and places him in a tie for third place. Also tied for third heading into the final round are Clarke Kincaid of Trophy Club, Ted Waldrip of Arlington, and Scott Maurer of Richardson. The final round of the championship is set to start at 8:00am on Sunday morning with players going off of the #1 and #10 tees. For final round pairings and full results, please visit www.txga.org.
