NCGA Staedler-Jetter Cup: Amateurs win 6th straight cup

NCGA amateurs continued their Staedler-Jetter Cup winning streak by defeating the NCPGA professionals 19 ½ to 8 ½

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2011) -- The NCGA amateurs continued their Staedler-Jetter Cup winning streak by defeating the NCPGA professionals 19 ½ to 8 ½. The NCGA won the event last year and has been in possession of the trophy since 2000. Like their Hanna-Wehrman counterparts, the NCGA senior team won last year and have held on to the trophy for the past six years.

“The seniors were matched by good play,” said Clark. “Jim Knoll’s 5-hole comeback was great, but they all played well.”

Jeff Burda, Mark Miller, Ron Johnson and Bob Olds triumphed over their respective professional competitors 3 and 2. The Ed Hester claimed the professional’s sole win and largest margin of victory for seniors of the day 5 and 4 over Doug Johnson.

NCGA Senior Player of the Year Jim Knoll came back from a large five-hole deficit early in the day to tie with Shawn Kelly.

Jim Knoll, Jeff Burda, Rob Adolph, Doug Johnson, Dan Bieber, Herb Jensen, Peter Moren, John Enright, Mark Miller, Casey Boyns, Gene Ackerman, Jay Guerin, Ron Johnson and Bob Olds make up the NCGA Staedler-Jetter team. The NCPGA’s team consists of Rick Dudley, Ed Hester, Dave Delong, Ron Parsons, Michael Cook, Glen Stubblefield, Al Weinhold, Mitch Thomas, Shawn Kelly, Charlie Gibson, Jim Collart, Gary Plato, Rick Rhoads, and Al Krueger.

The creation of the Senior Cup Matches was due in large part to former NCGA and Poppy Holding board member Rudy Staedler and Rick Jetter, longtime pro and owner at Spring Valley GC in Milpitas. The cup was renamed this year to honor both gentlemen.
