PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (May 11, 2014) -- Mike Stieler and Danny Paniccia are once again the Northern California Four-Ball champions.
On the strength of a final-round 3-under 69 at Spyglass Hill, the defending champions successfully defended their crown by topping runners-up Cameron Champ and Gary Dunn and Jeff Gilchrist and Steve Woods by a single shot.
Champ and Dunn held the early lead and shared the top of the leaderboard with Stieler and Paniccia after Saturday's second-round.
According to the NCGA, the turning point came on the par-3 15th. Trailing by a shot already, Champ's birdie putt came up short after Paniccia sank his. The two-shot swing put Stieler and Paniccia two shots up with three to play.
Woods and Gilchrist shot 5-under 67 to creep into a tie for second place, folliwng opening rounds of 71-70, but Champ and Dunn officially won a scorecard playoff for sole possession of second place.
Reigning Stocker Cup champion John Sawin and partner Robert Grube finished alone in fourth, shooting rounds of 69-72-68 while the teams of Scott Raber and Ben Corfee, Eddie Davis and Jon Peterson and Brett Viboch and Bobby Bucey tied for fifth place.
