NCAA Women's Regional Results: 24 teams headed to Nationals

Women's regional tournaments were held Thursday through Saturday at four locations across the United States to determine the 24 teams to advance to the NCAA Women's National Championship, May 24-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Florida.

Winning the West Regional were the USC Lady Trojans, who entered the tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. They began the final round with an 11-shot lead over Stanford, shooting 11-over on Saturday at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah to beat the Cardinal by six.

The Trojans were led by sophomore Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. and junior Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y. Then shot a final-round 67 to finish in fourth place while Park grabbed fifth place despite a 75 on Saturday.

Advancing alongside USC were Stanford, Arkansas, UNLV, Virginia, and California.

Medalist honors went to UNLV senior Dana Finkelstein, who was the only player to finish under par for the 54-hole tournament. Third- place finishing Arkansas had two players finish runner-up to Finkelstein — freshman Alana Uriell and sophomore Gaby Lopez.

SOUTH REGIONAL - SAN ANTONIO

Baylor edged UCLA for the crown at Briggs Ranch Golf Course, shooting seven-under on Saturday to stay ahead of the Bruins, who also shot seven- under. Washington entered the final day just a stroke behind Baylor but fell apart in the third round, shooting 12-over 300 but still finishing in a tie for fifth and moving on to Nationals.

Other teams advancing from the South Regional were Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Medalist honors were awarded to Baylor senior Hayley Davis, a native of England who shot rounds of 67-68-65 to take first place by five shots over fellow Great Britain native Bronte Law of UCLA. Baylor received stellar play from freshman Dylan Kim, who finished in third place at eight-under 208.

CENTRAL REGIONAL - SOUTH BEND

Duke fended off Wake Forest to grab the Central Regional title at Notre Dame's home track, Warren Golf Course. Duke's superstar freshman Leona Maguire led the Blue Devils with her medalist title, which she captured by a stroke over her junior teammate Celine Boutier.

Advancing to the National Championship along with Duke and Wake Forest were UC Davis, Arizona, Tulane, and Purdue. Wake Forest received top-10 performances from three players en route to their runner-up finish. Seniors Allison Emrey and Marissa Dodd placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while sophomore Sierra Sims tied for tenth.

EAST REGIONAL - RALEIGH

South Carolina rounds out the four regional winners as the Gamecocks defeated Northwestern by eight shots at NC State's home course in Raleigh. While the Wolfpack finished third and advanced to Nationals, South Carolina used a fifth place finish from Justine Dreher, a two other top-15 finishes from Sarah Schmelzel and Katelyn Dambaugh to win their title.

Also moving on to Florida from Raleigh were Alabama, LSU, and Campbell. LSU had their senior Madelene Sagstrom take home medalist honors and sophomore Caroline Nistrup finish in the runner-up position along with Coastal Carolina junior Lena Schaeffner, but only managed to tie for fourth as a team.
