N.C. Mid-Am: Greg Earnhardt goes low in final round to win

Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro fired 66 in Sunday's final round to earn a four-shot win at the North Carolina Mid-Amateur

MILL SPRING, N.C. — Greg Earnhardt fired a 6-under par round of 66 on Sunday at Bright's Creek Golf Club to surge ahead for a four-shot win at the North Carolina Mid-Amateur. Earnhardt, a native of Greensboro, trailed 36-hole leader Matt Crenshaw of Burlington by three shots entering Sunday's final round, but ended up cruising to victory thanks to his stellar play. His 66 was one of just two rounds posted in the 60s on the final day. The win was in comeback fashion the whole way for Earnhardt, who after a 73 in the opening-round was four back of a group of leaders at 3-under 69. Crenshaw settled for a second-place finish after shooting 73 on Sunday, which including double-bogeying the first hole of the day. He rebounded, though, remaining steady through the remainder of the round to go 1-under his final 17 holes and make no bogeys. Tying for third place were Steven Brame and defending champion Joe Jaspers at 4-under par 212.
