Michigan State gets 5th Big Ten Women's Title in 8 Years

MAINEVILLE, OH (April 22, 2018) - Michigan State claimed the Big Ten Championship in women's golf on Sunday after shooting a three-round total of five-under par 859 (283-286-290) in the 2018 Big Ten Championships at TPC River's Bend. The Spartans, who won their eighth Big Ten title, earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Maryland and Illinois tied for second place (-1; 863), while Northwestern and Ohio State tied for third place (+1; 865). Ohio State’s Jaclyn Lee won the individual Big Ten title, shooting a nine-under par 207 (66-68-73) and tying the championship record for lowest 54-hole score. With the win, Lee receives an exemption into the Symetra Tour’s first-ever Prasco Charity Championship to be held at TPC River’s Bend June 29-July 1. Maryland’s Xiaolin Tian and Michigan State's Sarah Burnham finished second (-5; 211), followed by the Spartans' Allyson Geer, Northwestern’s Janet Mao and Penn State’s Cara Basso in a fourth-place tie (-4; 212). All six players earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Championships team. Michigan State’s Burnham earned the Mary Fossum Award, honoring the conference's player with the lowest stroke average (-1.21) relative to par this season.
