Metropolitan Amateur: Long takes victory

Duke's Adam Long survives scare from a pair of golfers in final group to take victory

ST. LOUIS, M.O. (Aug. 10, 2008)--Old Hickory's Adam Long posted a 1-over par 211 then watched as his two closest pursuers - Norwood's Skip Berkmeyer and Meadowbrook's Justin Bardgett - attempt chances to tie at the 18th green of the 18th playing of the Metropolitan Amateur Championship. Berkmeyer lipped out his 13-foot birdie putt while Bardgett's chip shot from 22 feet spun out of the cup. Long, a junior to be at Duke University, has played a predominantly national schedule for the past few years. His win at Norwood was his first significant amateur title in Missouri. Nationally, he has tied for 10th in the past two years at The Players Amateur and made it to the semifinals of the North and South Amateur.
