MET (NY) Open: Amateurs fall but finish strong

Amateurs Ryan McCormack and Cameron Young led after Round 2 but couldn't pull it off

EDISON, N.J. (Aug. 23, 2012) -- Danny Balin overcame a six-shot deficit to take the 2012 MET Open Championship. Balin fired a 6-under 66 in Thursday's final round to knock off a pair of amateurs, who were tied for the 36-hole lead. Ryan McCormack and 15-year-old Cameron Young were the leaders entering the final round byt they couldn't keep the amateur magic going. McCormack finished one shot back tied for second place after a final-round 74 while Young struggled to a 79, which put him in a tie for 15th. Brian Komline was three shots behind the leader and tied for sixth while Mike Miller (10th), Jim Liu (T-11) and Sam Bernstein (T-11) also put together solid tournaments as amateurs.
