Memphis Mid-Amateur: Matt Cooper is victorious

Consistency paid off for Matt Cooper, who carded consecutive rounds of 71 to win the Memphis Mid-Amateur Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2014) — Matt Cooper forged a small comeback to win the Memphis Mid-Amateur Invitational on Sunday. He trailed Ben Fisher by two but while Fisher shot 74 on Sunday, Cooper carded a second straight one-under par round of 71 to edge Fisher and the rest of the field by a stroke. Cooper was two-over through 11 holes but fought back with three birdies in his final seven holes. Fisher posted a three-over 39 on the front and also came back stronger on the finishing nine with a 35 to place second. Clayton Ellis finished in third place by himself with back-to-back rounds of 72.
