McAllister takes AJGA Jr. Players Lead with Record Round

Class of 2018 LSU commit Garrett Barber will begin the final round 4-under and one shot off the place

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (September 2, 2017) - Logan McAllister of Oklahoma City, set a new 18-hole tournament record of 9-under-par 63 to take command of the leaderboard at The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf. The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf is celebrating its 10th anniversary on the AJGA schedule. Seventy-eight players from 22 countries are competing on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. McAllister, competing in his second Junior PLAYERS, posted nine birdies and no bogeys to beat Cody Proveaux’s 2010 score of 6-under-par 66 on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. The senior started the second round T35 after a first-round 3-over-par 75 and leads the field by two strokes at 6-under-par 138. Verbally committed to the University of Oklahoma, McAllister carded three birdies in a row twice, on Nos. 2-4 and Nos. 10-12. First-round leader Garrett Barber of Stuart, Florida, sits just two strokes behind McAllister at 4-under-par 140. The Rolex Junior All-American is seeking his first AJGA Invitational win. Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, and Bryan Wiyang Teoh of (Malaysia) Jupiter, Florida, are T3 at 3-under-par 141. Aman Gupta of Concord, North Carolina, Pierceson Coody of Plano, Texas, Parker Coody of Plano, Texas, Shaui Ming Wong of (Hong Kong) The Woodlands, Texas, Joe Highsmith of Lakewood, Washington, and Travis Vick of Houston round out the top five at 2-under-par 142. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s destruction, the AJGA is pledging $10 per birdie this week at TPC Sawgrass, thanks to support from two Houston-area AJGA tournaments and tournament chairmen: the Insperity Invitational / Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship presented by Callaway Golf (Bob Lewis and Bob Edwards) and the CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods (Chris Dernick and committee). TaylorMade-adidas Golf will also be pledging $10 per birdie at The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf. During the first and second rounds, players posted 460 birdies, raising $9,200 for the American Red Cross. Final-round tee times for The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf will run from 8:10 – 10:10 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
