Mass. Pub Links: Weather delays for first round

Ryan Riley leads at 4-under par at the weather delayed first round

HINGHAM, Mass. (Aug 2, 2011) -- It was a beautiful day at South Shore Country Club until a series of thunderstorms rolled into the area during the late afternoon hours and forced the suspension of play at the 2011 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship.

The first round of play was officially suspended at 5:03 p.m. Officials made the decision to suspend play for the day at 5:45 p.m.

As a result, the first round will be completed on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 a.m. The second round will begin immediately following the completion of the first round.

Following the first round of play, the 120-player field will be reduced to the low 60 scorers and ties. Only those competitors will compete in a second and final round of 18 holes.

Proving once again that he is playing at a level matched by few, Ryan Riley (Norton CC) fired a 4-under par 68 at South Shore Country Club on Tuesday to take a one-stroke lead during the first round of play at the 2011 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship.
