Manske leads Iowa Senior Amateur heading into final round

Defending champion just one shot back as Manske holds slim lead

WATERLOO, Iowa (August 26, 2014) — Bill Manske of Algona leads the 36th Iowa Senior Amateur Championship with one round to play. Manske shot a 1-under par 71 at Sunnyside Country Club and will take a one stroke lead into the final 18 holes over defending champion Joe Palmer (at left). Palmer, of West Des Moines, made a big move during round two carding a 3-under-par 69. Palmer opened with a 75 on Monday. Also making a move was Cedar Falls' Richard Gorbell. Gorbell tied Palmer's 69 and is now tied with Jay Slings of Williamsburg for third. Gorbell has posted 76-69 while Slings went 71-74. First round leader Bill Watson, who opened with a 70, struggled during round two. The Mason City resident posted an 81 to fall back into a tie for 10th. In the Super Senior Division (65 and older) Dan Naughton of Marion takes a one stroke lead into Wednesday's final round. Naughton posted a 76 in round two to sit at 154 over 36 holes. One back is Jeff Petersen of Waterloo, who shot a second round 74. Petersen's 74 is the lowest of the first two days in the Super Senior Divsion. The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. off both #1 and #10 tees on Tuesday. Click the link below for full results and pairings.
