Luzar rallies for Carolina Super Sr. title

Rick Luzar of Pinehurst, NC finished as the only player under par with two-day total of two-under par 142 to win the 2013 North Carolina Super Senior Championship

SANFORD, NC – Final round results of the 6th North Carolina Super Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 (6,000 yards, par 36-36—72, 70.8/129). Rick Luzar of Pinehurst, NC finished as the only player under par with two-day total of two-under par 142 to win the 2013 North Carolina Super Senior Championship. Luzar and Kernersville, N.C. native Arlis Pike dueled side by side to the finish with both players shooting a combined seven-under over the last 7 holes. “Arlis and I had it going, I birdied 13-14, he birdied 14-15 and 17, and I birdied 16 and birdied 18 to finish.” Luzar said. “We both played really well, and it was fun to win one of these.” Luzar is originally from Melbourne, FL and just started playing in CGA events in the last 18 months once he became a resident. “I had played in One-Days (with the CGA) and played well in them, so it was nice to win a Championship now.” Defending champion Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC posted an eleven over 155 to finish in a tie for 17th place. First round leader from High Point, NC Ernie Newton shot second round 79 to finish at 149 in a tie for 5th place. The top 30 finishers and ties are exempt into the 2014 North Carolina Super Senior Championship.
