WESTHAMPTON BEACH, N.Y. (June 10, 2014) -- Top seed Matthew Lowe was upended by No. 17 James Smoot on a busy day at the 2014 Long Island Amateur. At Westhampton Country Club, Smoot knocked off Scott Singer 7 and 6 before dispatching of No. 1 Lowe, who was also the defending champion, in 19 holes. He'll move on to Wednesday's action and take on No. 8 Darin Goldstein. David Prowler, the 29 seed, is also moving on. he upset No. 4 Kurt Brey before beating No. 13 Matthew Pollock in 19 holes for the chance to take on No. 5 Connor O'Rourke. Joe Saladino, who entered match play as the No. 31 seed, defeated No. 2 Clancy Waugh of Wake Forest before besting Zenon Bishop to move on. He'll face No. 7 Tom Trakoval in Wednesday's quarterfinals. The final Round of 8 match pitchs No. 3 Daniel Abbondandolo against No. 11 Hal Berman.
