LNGA Amateur: Rachel Kuehn looks to make it two in a row

After taking the North & South, Rachel Kuehn leads after a weather-shortened second round at Tennessee Grasslands G&CC

After taking home the Women’s North & South Championship just a week ago, Wake Forest star Rachel Kuehn is contending for another amateur major this week. Kuehn finished only 10 holes today at Tennessee Grasslands G&CC and sits on a two-shot lead. The second round was cut short due to darkness after weather delayed play. Unable to replicate her near-perfect 6-under 30 on the front nine from the first round, Kuehn birdied the par-4 first and then added nine pars before play was suspended. Waiting in the wings just one shot behind Kuehn is Louisville’s Lauren Thibodeau. After an opening 68, Thibodeau was even par through the front side Tuesday with a birdie on No. 7 canceling out a bogey on No. 9. Among the handful to finish their rounds were Carly Burkhardt (Furman) and Brooke Riley (Northwestern). The pair sit just three shots behind Kuehn at 3 under. With Riley putting together a one-under 71 and Burkhardt carding a 3-under 69, they are in a decent position to attack when the third round commences following the conclusion of the remainder of the second round Wednesday morning. Burkhardt and Riley are joined by SMU’s Kennedy Pedigo at 3-under. Pedigo, through 16 holes, looks to make up some more ground before the third round begins. At the conclusion of second-round play, the field will be cut to top-60 and ties as the event heads to the final round on Wednesday.
