LIVE SCORING: "The Ike" Metropolitan G.A. Stroke Play Championship

The 68th Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship is underway at Brooklawn Country Club, which continues a streak of first-time hosts for the event.

The historic Club and A.W. Tillinghast layout is no stranger to championship golf though, having welcomed five USGA championships since 1974. The Club has also welcomed four MGA championships including the 1919 Met Amateur and most recently the Lexus MGA Senior Open in 2016.

Nearly 140 of the Met Area's top players will vie for the iconic Ike bust trophy, representative of the tournament's namesake President Dwight Eisenhower. The championship was established in 1953 by Daily News sportswriter Dana Mozley and nurtured through its earliest years by Mozley and former MGA President George Sands.

The MGA purchased the rights to the tournament, relaunching it in 1986 as its stroke play championship. Some of the region's biggest names have claimed the title, from George Zahringer and Johnson Wagner to Cameron Young and Mark Costanza.

This year's field is as strong as ever, with 19 players in the field owning an MGA championship and the top five players in the current MGA Player of the Year standings set to tee it up. Players will tee off Nos. 1 and 12, with both a morning and afternoon wave of play, Monday. Following the opening round of play, a cut will be made to the top 40 players and ties, and anyone within five shots of the lead. Metropolitan G.A. story
