DALLAS, Texas — After darkness suspended play during yesterday's weather-delayed first round at the Trans-Miss Senior Championship, Jeff New of Scottsdale, Ariz. emerged as the opening-round leader at two-under 69.
Though Jack Slayton of Albuquerque, N.M. owned the clubhouse lead after play concluded Tuesday night, New came out in the morning and moved to two-under before beginning the second round.
Play was halted at various times throughout Tuesday's first round, totaling in 2 hours and 47 minutes of delay all together due to inclement weather.
Murphy Mitchell, also of Scottsdale, is in second place at 71 while Slayton began the day in third with his 73.
In the Super Senior division, Frank Brame opened up a three-shot lead with his one-over par 72, despite going two-over his last seven. And in the Legends division, Jim Martin leads by two with an 81.
