Last am standing: Heck closes out Evian week with T44 finish

Rachel Heck was one of four amateurs to play the LPGA's Evian Championship, but the only one to make the cut

EVIAN-LES-BAINES, France (Sept. 16, 2018) – For a 16-year-old, Rachel Heck has an impressive record for cuts made in LPGA majors. The Memphis, Tenn., native is now two-for-two in her young career after closing out a T-44 at the Evian Championship with weekend rounds of 72-71. Heck finished at 2-over 286 for the week.

Heck is a high school junior who has already committed to play at Stanford beginning in the fall of 2020. She is a three-time Tennessee Junior Golfer of the Year. Heck earned an invitation to play the Evian, the LPGA’s fifth and final major of the year, when she was named the AJGA’s Rolex Girls Junior Player of the Year.

Last summer, Heck qualified into the U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. She finished T-33 after rounds of 72-74-72-72. Heck played the final round with Lexi Thompson, and names it as one of her most memorable moments on the golf course. She was the third-low amateur that week in New Jersey.

At Evian Golf Resort, Heck’s highest score was a 73 in Round 2. She had bogeys on Nos. 17 and 18 that day. But Heck was impressive around the picturesque venue. She hit 42 of 52 fairways and averaged 29 putts per round. She also averaged 255 yards off the tee.
