LOS ANGLELES, Calif. (June 8, 2008)--John (Jong-Yeop) Lim of Torrance, a rising sophomore at Loyola Marymount University, fired a 6-under-par 66 today at Rancho Park Golf Course to come from off the pace and win the 91st Los Angeles City Amateur Golf Championship by four shots over two-time defending champion Tim Hogarth of Northridge and Brian Woolf of Granada Hills.
Lim posted rounds of 73-71-70-66--280, 18-under-par over the venerable course. Hogarth, a six-time winner looking for the three-peat, led through two but posted his second consecutive even-par round of 72 Sunday to finish at 284; Woolf shot 2-under-par 70 today to tie Hogarth for runner-up honors.
Another shot back were recently crowned CIF-SCGA Southern Regional High School champion Johnny Mac Arthur of Newhall, who shot 69 today, and Min-Wook Woo of Los Angeles who had the day's best round with a 7-under-par 65. Third-round leader Edc Susolik of Newport Beach ballooned to an 80 today and finished tied for 11th.
Hogarth, who was bidding for a seventh L.A. City title as well as three in a row, said afterwards, "I just didn't have it today; didn't have it all week, really. You've got to hand it to him [Lim] -- he kicked our butts today."
