Of the 33 amateurs who qualified for the event, only five got to play the weekend. Krueger and Kyrinis tied for 29th at 23 over for 72 holes at Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, N.C.
Kyrinis, a Canadian, was the 2017 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur champion. At Pine Needles, Kyrinis came back from a rough start. She had two double bogeys on her way to a first-round 80. Subsequent rounds of 76-74-77 helped her keep pace with Krueger, the 10-time San Francisco City Amateur champion.
Another Canadian, Mary Ann Hayward, finished at 24 over to miss low amateur honors by a shot.
Amy Ellertson was T-42 at 27 over and Ellen Port, who also made the cut at last year’s Senior Women’s Open, was 26 over to tie for 40th.
Helen Alfredsson, a longtime Ladies European Tour and LPGA player, finally added a USGA title to her long list of achievements by winning the event by two shots over Juli Inkster.
