Kerper Wins FSGA Winter Series

Richard Kerper captured the Winter Series event run by the Florida State Golf Association at Waterlefe Golf and was joined in the winner’s circle by Dennis Brady and Ray Darmstadt, who won the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively.

BRADENTON, FL. (January 19, 2011) --Richard Kerper, of Safety Harbor, came from a two-stroke deficit in the Regular Division to win by one stroke. After carding a seven-over par 79 in the first round, Kerper fired the low round of the tournament in the final round with a two-under par 70, for a tournament total of 149. This is Richard’s first victory on the Winter Series this season. Jim Pepio, of Tampa, finished alone in second place after rounds of 77-73, for a tournament total of 150. James Marcelak, of Fort Myers, and Nick Fernandez, of Pembroke Pines, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 159. Dennis Brady, of Melbourne, trailed the first round leader by two strokes after firing a one-over par 73 in the first round of the Senior Division. Brady fired a three-over par round of 75 in the final round to force a play-off with Patrick Kaylor, of Clearwater who posted rounds of 73-75 for a tournament total of 148. Brady secured the victory on the first play-off hole by making par. First round leader Joe Knight, of Santa Rosa Beach, finished in third place with a tournament total of 149. Ray Darmstadt, of Cocoa Beach, came from a four-stroke deficit in the Super Senior Division to win in a sudden death play-off. Darmstadt carded a five-over par 77 in the first round, and followed up with a round of two-over par 74. After 36-holes, Darmstadt found himself tied with Rusty Napier, of Shalimar who posted rounds of 77-74 for a tournament total of 151. The pair would head for a sudden death play-off where Darmstadt prevailed after making birdie on the first play-off hole with an excellent wedge shot to inside one foot. Jerry Jackson, of Sarasota, finished in third place with a tournament total of 152. The Winter Series events include eight competitions, seven individual events and one four-ball event. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round
