Kansas Senior: Groom hangs on

Following his opening round 5-under par 66 yesterday, Steve Groom picked up where he left off and cruised to a record setting victory

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. (Aug. 13, 2013) -- Following his opening round 5-under par 66 yesterday, Steve Groom picked up where he left off and cruised to a record setting victory in the 33rd Kansas Senior Amateur Championship at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club. Groom closed the championship with a second round 3-under par 68 to claim a three shot victory over 2012 Senior Amateur champion Steve Newman. Groom finished the championship at 8-under par 134 which set a new KGA record for low winning score for the Kansas Senior Amateur. The previous low 36-hole scoring record in the championship was 138 total. In the Super Senior Division, KGA veteran Don Kuehn was victorious by a three shot margin as well. Kuehn used rounds of 71 and 69 to finish at 2-under par 140 total. Jim Seward finished in the runner-up position in the Super Senior Division with a two day total of 1-over par 143 total. In the Net Division, Independence's Bob Hunter took top honors with a two round net total of 9-under par 133. Leawood's Doug Euston finished second in the net with 6-under par 136 total.
