Kang wins Women's North & South Amateur

Danielle Kang survives a run of birdies by opponent Doris Chen, comes back to win, 2 & 1

PINEHURST, N.C. (July 23, 2011) -- It took 35 holes and three storm delays but in the end Danielle Kang closed out her run through the North and South Women's Amateur Championship Saturday with a 2-and-1 win over Doris Chen. After grabbing a 2-up lead after the opening 18 holes of the 36-hole championship match held on Pinehurst No. 2, Kang weathered a six-hole stretch, over which Chen claimed four holes, including three-straight wins with birdies, in the afternoon play to take a 2-up lead after 26 holes of competition. Kang and Chen also weathered three delays during the afternoon caused by storms rolling through the Sandhills. Kang's comeback started when she jarred home a nine-footer on the 27th hole, cutting Chen's lead to 1 up. Chen then three-putted on the 28th hole, allowing Kang to square the match.
