CARNOUSTIE, SCOTLAND (July, 31, 2011) -- Danielle Kang earned the Smyth Silver Medal at 2011 Women's British Open on Sunday for low amateur honors with a nine shot margin over Sophia Popov of Germany.
Kang carded rounds of 72-69-75-74--290 (+2) while Popov, the only other amateur to make the cut signed for scores of 70-75-77-77--299 (+11).
Yanni Tseng, the world number one, fired an impressive 69 in windy conditions to win her second major championship of the year.
Third round leader Caroline Masson from Germany ballooned to a 78 on the final day and finished in a tie for fifth place.
Kang plans to turn professional after the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.
Kang graduated early from Westlake High School in Westlake Village, Calif. to attend Pepperdine University in the Spring of 2010. After she was ruled academically ineligible the Pepperdine waves had a poor showing at the NCAA Regional and missed a chance to play for the National title.
