Despite being just a junior in high school, Kaitlyn Papp has had her big moments in golf, like being crowned champion at the AJGA Girls Championship. The Lake Travis, TX, resident fired a 4-under 68 to take the lead in the prestigious Women’s South Atlantic Amateur (The Sally), with a two-day total of 6-under 138, four strokes ahead of yesterday’s leader Ashley Holder.
Holder struggled a bit today as temperatures dipped below normal, finishing with a 3-over 75. The University of Central Florida junior posted a 5-under 67 yesterday and now sits 2-under at 142.
One shot behind is Florida Gator Taylor Tomlinson, who finished in a tie for third yesterday but now finds herself alone in that position after going 71-72 -- 143. One of the people she was tied with yesterday, Alexa Pano, is in a tie for sixth.
Weather permitting, play resumes Friday morning. The forecast calls for thunderstorms in the morning followed by scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon.
