PENDLETON, Ore. — Justin Kadin (Corvallis,
Ore.) leads the
Men’s Division and Rosie Cook (Bend, Ore.) is in
front in the
Women’s Division after the first day of the 27th
Oregon Mid-
Amateur Championship, held August 15-16 at
Wildhorse Resort
in Pendleton, Oregon.
Kadin fired a blistering 7-under par 66 to lead by
three shots in
the Men’s Division, as the course played as a par
73 for the
division on Saturday. A whopping 21 players
shot under par in
Saturday’s first round, adding up to what should
be an exciting
final day on Sunday.
Kadin, who won the last OGA event played at
Wildhorse Resort
(2010 Oregon Public Links), compiled an eagle,
six birdies and
just one bogey in his round. In second place at
4-under par is
hometown competitor Nathan Dick (Pendleton,
Ore.) and Denny
Taylor (Gladstone, Ore).
Four players are four shots back of Kadin and in
a tied for fourth
place: Philip Bagdade (Portland, Ore.), Jim
Dunlap (Beaverton,
Ore.), defending champion Joel Johnson
(Portland, Ore.) and
Terry Paresi (Oregon City, Ore.).
In the Women’s Division, Cook played extremely
consistent on
Saturday, totaling five birdies and just two
bogies in her round
of 69, as the course played to a par 72 for the
Women’s Division
in the first round. Kate Harper (Portland, Ore.) is
at 1-under par
and in second place, while defending five-time
champion Brie
Stone (Veneta, Ore.) is four back of Cook and in
third place
after shooting a 1-over par 73.
Lani Elston (Milwaukie, Ore.), who won this
year’s PNGA
Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship earlier this
summer, is in
fourth place after a first round 74 (+2). Vanvilay
Cox (Eugene,
Ore.) is six back of Cook, firing a 75 (+3) on
Saturday.
