CHASE, B.C. (June 6, 2015) -- Rain continued to fall through the night after a wet second round, and with poor conditions, the Tournament Committee cancelled the final round of the British Columbia Mid-Amateur at Talking Rock Resort Golf Club in Chase, BC. Second round leader Jordan Belton was crowned champion after being the only person in red numbers at 1-under after 36 holes, winning by two strokes.
“The course was unplayable. There was excessive water in the fairways,” said Susan White, Senior Manager, Field Operations for British Columbia Golf. “To have played would have not been good for the course or the players.”
Belton, of Surrey, BC, and Mark Heinrich (Langley, BC) both carded rounds of one-under 71 in the second round, but Belton’s even-par 72 on day one was the difference, as Heinrich posted four-over par 76. Heinrich finished tied for fifth with Vancouver’s James Decker.
Adam Kernan (Kamloops) had rounds of 73 and 72 to finish at one-over par 145, tying him with Patrick Weeks (Vancouver), the leader after the first round, for second place.
After his second round, Belton, an investment advisor and native of Surrey, told the British Columbia Golf Association, "I'm pretty happy about the round today. To be in contention is good because I haven't played too many provincial events."
