Jones Cup Sr: Hanzel, Hall share lead

Reigning U.S. Senior Champion Doug Hanzel and local favorite Jack Hall share the first-round lead

SEA ISLAND, Ga. (March 3, 2014) -- Reigning U.S. Senior Champion Doug Hanzel and local favorite Jack Hall share the first-round lead at the 2014 Jones Cup Senior Invitational at Ocean Forest Golf Club. Hanzel, of Savannah, Ga. and Hall, a Sea Island resident, both shot 1-under 69 on Monday and lead the field at one of the year's premier senior events. The 54-hole senior invitational event began in 2012 and follows in the footsteps of the Jones Cup, an event that unofficially kicks off the amateur circuit each year at the same course. John Armstrong of Frostburg, Md. and John Gibbs of Augusta, Ga. were second following Round 1. The duo shot identical 71s. Defending champion Mike Bodney did not finish the first round, meaning there will be a new champion. Amateurgolf.com will continue to have updated scores and recaps as the event second and final rounds are played. For a full rundown of first-round scores, follow the leaderboard link below.
