SPRING, Texas — John Dowdall and Randy Lance
successfully defended their title Sunday at the
South Regional Four-Ball Championship
presented by Club Champion. The duo posted a
second consecutive 7-under-par 65 at Willow
Creek Golf Club to win by one stroke over hard-
charging John Hunter and Kyle Maxwell.
Fulshear’s Dowdall and Lance, from the
Woodlands, worked together again to maximize
their birdies and take their second South Four-
Ball title. In Sunday’s final round Lance strung
together three straight birdies on the front nine
and two more on the back. Dowdall picked up a
birdie on both the front and back nine. Their
two-day total of 14-under par (65-65—130)
matched their 2014 winning score at Quail Valley
Golf Course’s El Dorado Course.
“Playing with John is so easy,” said Lance, who
earlier in the week underwent surgery to
alleviate pain in his kidneys. “He and I hit a lot
of fairways and greens, giving us plenty of looks
at birdies. We were very happy that we didn’t
have a single bogey over the past two
days.”
Dowdall echoed his partner’s sentiments
regarding the steady play over the two rounds.
“We played very consistent,” said Dowdall, the
2014 TGA South Region Player of the Year.
“Normally, both of us were in the holes. Randy
would give me runs at birdies when he would
make a par, and I would do the same for
him.”
Lance finished runner-up to Dowdall in the South
Region Player of the Year.
The Hunter/Maxwell team made a strong push in
the final round after an opening round 4-under
68. Hunter, who lives in Houston, posted six
birdies, while The Woodlands’ Maxwell picked up
four more for their team as they turned in a
tournament-low 9-under 63 on Sunday for a two-
day total of 131.
Walker Lee and Kade Stewart finished alone in
third place with a two-day total of 67-66—133.
