Jim Carley leads Florida Senior Championship

Carley leads after a 5-under 67 in Monday's first round.

Jim Carley holds a two-stroke lead heading into the second round of play in the 2011 Senior Amateur Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club in Bradenton. Second round tee-times begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday, April 12 with the final round on Wednesday, April 13. Jim Carley, from Ormond Beach, recorded a first round five-under par 67 in near perfect conditions to have a one stroke advantage. Carley’s opening round of 67 included seven birdies, with four in a row from holes 12-15, and just two bogies. The 2008 Champion, Tim Miller, of Venice, stands alone in second place after a opening round four-under-par 68. Bruce Fitzpatrick, of Homestead, is currently in third place with an opening round three-under-par 69. The Defending Champion Bill Zylstra, of Ocklawaha, currently is tied for sixth place, after opening with a one-under par 71. Other past Champions in the mix include the 2004 Champion, Bruce Scamehorn, of Winter Haven, who carded a one-under par 71, and the 2007 Champion, Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, who is currently tied for 22nd, after a first round one-over par 73. Players who advanced to the Championship compete in 54 holes of stroke play with a cut after 36 holes.
