Jay Reynolds cruises to Austin City victory

Reynolds' hot start — an 11-uner 60 on day one — pushed him to a nine-shot win at the Austin City Amateur Championship

AUSTIN, Texas — When you shoot 60 in the opening round of a tournament, you're bound to eventually come out victorious. Jay Reynolds fired a ridiculous 27 on the back nine of his first round at the Austin City Amateur Championship, jumping out to a seven-shot lead. His eight-under back nine featured four birdies and two eagles, including one on the par-4 18th. Remarkably, Reynolds played so well his next three rounds, that he still would have claimed a one-shot victory had he posted eight shots higher — a 68 — on the first day. The Austin native shot 69-74-67 to close out a wire-to-wire, nine-shot victory over Steve Paterson. The four-round event featured golf at four different Austin-area courses, with Reynolds shooting his 60 at Lions Municipal Golf Course. Round two was played at Roy Kizer Golf Course, while rounds three and four moved to Grey Rock Golf Club and Morris Williams Golf Course.
