Jaskaran Sihota wins San Mateo County

In the Senior Division the spoils of victory went to 80-year-old Jim Ono

SAN MATEO, CA (March 26, 2017) -- At the San Mateo County Championship hosted by Poplar Creek Golf Course Jaskaran Sihota followed up his opening round 64 with a 67 to win the title. Sihota finished the weekend with a 131 tally and four shots in front of runner-ups Finigan Tilly (68-67--135) and Ryan Sloane (67-68--135). Henrik Sohlberg (65-71--136) ended up fourth while David Escay (71-66--137) and Brent Booth (69 68 137) tied for fifth. SENIOR DIVISION: AGE DEFYING MAGIC FROM JIM ONO Jim Ono, nearing his 81st birthday, shot a final round 68 and won the San Mateo County Senior Championship. Ono, a retired attorney, came alive on Sunday, coming from four strokes back to win by a single shot. This was a Senior event (55-plus) not a Super Senior. Jim bested all in in the field, some more than 25 years his junior. He posted scores of 73-68, 141 at the age of 80. Finishing in a close second was Tony Ralph (73-69--142) as four others shared third two-strokes further back. ROUND ONE RECAP On the first day of the San Mateo County Championship hosted by Poplar Creek Golf Course Jaskaran Sihota fired a 64 to take a one shot lead. When the final round begins on Sunday Henrik Sohlberg will begin play in second place following a 65, Ryan Sloane with a 67 is in third place, in fourth place it is Finigan Tilly after a 68 while Dylan VanderVeer and Brent Booth are tied for fifth at 69. In the Senior Division Jim Ono is leading the way after a 73, Ralph Castanzo and Jim Williams are sharing second after 74's.
