James Russo posts 6-under 116 at Rolling Hills, then wins a three-way playoff for the title

TEMPE, Arizona (Jan. 10, 2016) -- It the finish of the season kickoff event for the Arizona Golf Association is any indication of what lies ahead, it's going to be a good one. At the Arizona Short Course Championship, James Russo tied with Blaine Staggs and Colton Yates in regulation, then closed out a playoff to capture the title. All three players had closed with 6-under 116 for the 36-hole event at Rolling Hills, a par-61 course. The fun of a tournament like this is that it can become a birdie fest, which is exactly what happened for one of the runners-up, Blaine Staggs. He birdied 6 of his last 8 holes including runs of three-straight at 11-13 and 16-18. Russo had been hottest in round one, when he shot a 5-under 56. In the final round, he posted 1-under with 7 birdies and 6 bogeys.
