EDMOND, OK (June 29, 2016) -- With rounds of 67-66-67 Jake Bishop has captured the Oklahoma Stroke Play title. Bishop finished the 54-holes at Oak Tree Country Club 10-under and three-strokes better than Cody Burrows.
Throughout the week, Bishop, a rising junior at Wichita State rolled in 19 birdies and never had less than five birdies in a round. During the final round, the two-time All-Missouri Valley selection birdied four of the first eight holes while only giving back strokes on one hole, the 9th where he double-bogeyed.
After turning in 1-under 34, Bishop carded two birdies on the back nine to close in 2-under 33 and solidify his hold on the Oklahoma Stroke Play trophy.
Bishop had two strings of birdies in the first two rounds that helped separate him from the field. In Monday's first round Bishop jarred six birdies in an eight hole stretch and on Tuesday he finished with four consecutive birdies.
Runner-up Cody Burrows, a sophomore at Oral Roberts, finished 7-under thanks to three straight under-par rounds. His final day score was a bogey-free 2-under 68 that followed up rounds of 69-66.
Thomas Johnson (Oklahoma) and Luke Phillips both finished 3-under to share third place. Three players tied for fifth at 2-under.
