Irish Senior Amateur: Morrow leads after Round 1

Portmarnock's Adrian Morrow made the perfect start as he aims to improve upon his 2nd place finish last year

Palmerstown, Oranmore, County Galway, Ireland (May 30, 2012) -- Portmarnock's Adrian Morrow made the perfect start as he endeavours to better his runner-up finish at last year's Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship, carding a level-par 70 to take the early clubhouse lead on Day 1 of the 2012 edition of the championship in Athenry. Morrow leads by one from the highly fancied Scot Ian Brotherston, who played steadily in an opening 71, one stroke clear of Bandon's John Carroll with Bangor's Garth McGimpsey a further stroke back. Defending champion Hugh Smyth (Mourne) carded a 74 while last year's Order of Merit winner Maurice Kelly shot an opening 75.
